| Jody Schulze, EEBW (Certified Equine Therapist) |

Jody grew up on a grain farm just west of Stony Plain and is still involved with the farm. She started riding at the age of two, got her first pony at four, first horse at 13 and at age 14, with money from her grandma, bought two Anglo Arabs and started her first horse. Summers working as a trail guide led to a month long colt-starting clinic after high school and subsequent work with a horse trainer.
In 2003, Jody started the Equine Science program majoring in Western Horsemanship at Olds college. The training there included everything from accounting, human relations and technical writing to courses in all aspects of the horse industry... health care, first aid, conformation and anatomy, reproductive courses including a practical hand breeding course and pasture management. And of course, riding everyday, colt starting at the end of the first year, starting and driving draft colts. There was also a farrier course involved where Jody learned to trim horses and understand the components of a good shoeing job.
Jody graduated from Olds College in 2005 with honors, receiving the Louis McKinney scholarship.
She then moved to BC and started colts professionally for two years. This was followed by a winter in Arizona, training horses with professional barrel horse trainer, Kirsty White.
In the fall of 2008, Jody took the Helen J Woods course on Equine Therapy, which is an intensive two month course including three weeks of theory. The remainder was all practical hands on work, with each student working on his/her own horse each day, as well as the horses belonging to the other students. Jody graduated from the Equine Therapy course - again at the top of her class. Since then, she's been working as an equine therapist.
In the Spring of 2010 Jody continued her equine therapy education, taking the foundation massage course through Equinology . After the course Jody completed a 6 month externship, recieving her EEBW certification in Fall 2010. Fall 2010 also saw Jody take two more courses, Equinology's Advanced Massage Techniques with Debranne Pattillo MEEBW as well as Principles of Saddle Fitting and Shoeing Techniques with Dr. Kerry Ridgway DVM.
Jody currently lives near Warburg, Alberta with her fiance Jayme. They have a grain and cattle operation, as well as seven horses - mostly quarter horses and paints. Jody also raises border collie/heeler cross pups. |
