Equine therapy is not meant to replace proper veterinary care. It is another tool available for horse owners to keep their horses happy, comfortable and performing at their best. As a body worker I look forward to being a part of the team supporting and providing the best possible care for your horse.
A typical appointment will take between one and two hours, depending on the individual horse. This will include assessment and examination of the horse, adjustments and massage work. After the first session I normally recommend a follow up in about two weeks, this provides an opportunity to assess how well the horse has maintained the work that was done and address remaining issues. Following the initial two treatments your horse can be placed on an individual maintenance program depending on their individual needs, taking into consideration work load, discipline, show schedule, etc. I ask that the owner be present to hold the horse for the first session.
Horses respond to treatment in different ways. You may see marked improvement in your horse following the first treatment, other times a few sessions are needed to make a noticeable change. Some horses really enjoy the sessions right off the bat, while other horses need time to develop trust to allow a stranger to work on them in such a manner. Licking and chewing, and yawning are often seen during the treatment; these are signs of a release.
I travel to your horse for the appointment. If it is cold outside we do need to be able to work somewhere warm. Massage work is not as effective when working on cold muscles and it is also much less enjoyable for your horse.
Long distance trips are also available, providing there are enough horses.
